Window Cleaning Weather

The weather is finally warming up and the sun is shining - with temperatures expected to reach 21°C in the UK this weekend.

And with all this sun - it's the perfect time to clean your windows!

It is a myth that newspaper is the best thing to use, as the print can leave dirty marks and the sunshine will show up the smallest of smudges.

The Vileda Window Cloth is ideal for the task and will leave your windows gleaming. You'll be able to see all the streaks in the light - so use the sunny weather to your advantage!

Vileda Style Dish Cloth Review

The McCaskie Clan blog recently reviewed one of our latest products, the Vileda Style Dish Cloth, and we were thrilled to learn that they loved it!

Not only did the McCaskies comment on the absorbency of this super stylish cloth, but they were pleased to learn that it could be washed and used again and again.

They even mentioned that the Style Dish Cloth’s tough and durable material withstood some serious family cleaning up - so don't just take our word for it, visit the McCaskie's page.

Have you tried our Style Dish Cloth yet? If so, it would be great to hear what you think.

Say Goodbye to Back Pain

Did you know that if you clean with an incorrect posture you could cause yourself back pain.

To avoid this try to remain as upright as possible when cleaning as the repetitive nature of the movements mean it is easy to go into autopilot.

Make sure you stay aware of your posture and this awareness will help you stop falling in to traps. For example, when mopping use a cleaning product with a telescopic handle, such as the Vileda SuperMocio.

Mrs Mop Does a Marathon Clean Every Year

British women do so much cleaning that over the course of a year they cover the same distance as a full-length marathon with their mop.

According to a nationwide study of domestic duties by cleaning expert Vileda, the average British woman mops nearly 26 miles of floor each year. This equates to a staggering 1,150 miles with a mop in a lifetime – the equivalent to jogging from Brighton to Glasgow – and back again.

Their male counterparts aren’t going quite the same distance, coming in at just over 20 miles a year.

The survey, which polled 3,000 people from all across the UK*, also reveals that the average time women spend mopping is 11 minutes and 45 seconds per session compared to a shorter time of just over 10 minutes for men.

The Northern Irish mop the furthest – mopping more than 2,000 miles each year. And it’s the South East who spend’s the least time mopping, with 27% admitting to spending only up to 5 minutes mopping each time.

It was revealed that Londoners like to spend lots of time scrubbing the floor, with 63% of those polled admitting to getting down on their hands and knees regularly to tackle those tough stains.

Lindsey Taylor, spokesperson for Vileda, said: “British women really are going the distance when it comes to mopping.

“Interestingly, the most regular moppers are people with grey hair – mopping at least twice a week.

“Cleaning doesn’t need to be a massive chore – little and often is the best way - there really is no excuse for those who don’t mop regularly.”

Naturals Review

The Green Familia blog recently reviewed our Naturals cloths, giving us a 5/5 rating!

We were delighted that they found the Vileda Kitchen Cloth absorbent as well as ideal for dealing with everything from potty training accidents to drying wet cats!

They even mentioned that you can wash your cloths by popping them in the washing machine – which we know people find really handy.

We’ve just launched an extension to the Naturals range – so it now includes floorcare too.

So, there really is no excuse not to make all your cleaning green!

THE JOY OF DUST

We surveyed some customers to find out what their favourite cleaning tasks were and over half said they enjoyed mopping the most. 58% saying they preferred it to other activities including vacuuming (32%) and dusting (25%). This may have something to do with a mop’s ability to double up as a microphone (as demonstrated by Hannah Sandling!)

The research also revealed that Saturday morning is the most popular time for cleaning as workaholic Brits struggle to find time in the week to clean their homes and want a sparkling home for the weekend.

We spoke to a top psychologist about how cleaning makes people feel and were delighted when she said the donning those rubber gloves and giving your home a good clean makes you as happy as that first tender kiss with a new love.

No wonder they say a clean home is a happy home.

Tips for halls, stairs and landings

Whether it is grubby kids, muddy dogs or dirty husbands coming in after football, these areas take a lot of wear and tear, so might need more frequent - but less lengthy - attention.

We have some top tips to make cleaning these tricky areas easier:

Keep shoes and coats neatly on a rack and ensure the landing is free from obstacles. Persuade family members to take off shoes before entering the rest of the house, to save cleaning time elsewhere.

The stairs can be tricky to clean but the rechargeable battery operated Vileda E-Sweeper has side sweepers that clean corners and edges. it is lightweight and suitable for any floor type.

Keep an old towel at the front door to wipe down the dog and prevent dripping rain or mud from coming into the house.

New Term Clean

At this time of year everyone's thoughts turn to the kids going back to school. I don't know about you, but no matter how old I get I always think of this time as the start of a new year. It is a new beginning and just like the kids have shiny new stationery and shoes, I think we should have shiny clean homes as well. With children in and out of the house all summer, it is easy to get a bit behind on the housework. This is why I would recommend a good clean at the start of the new academic year.

It won't be such a big job to get ready for guests at Christmas and also will you keep you busy if you are missing the little ones after the summer.

I suggest you plan ahead and think how gorgeous your house will look when you have finished. This gives you the motivation for a big clean!

Ensure you equip yourself properly - a tradesperson is only as good as her tools!

Have all the supplies ready - so make sure you have enough multi-surface cleaner, heavy duty degreaser and bleach at least.

Get rid of any clutter - you can't clean in a messy space. Either find a home for everything or dump it. This is a great tip for refreshing the home at the start of a new year.

Make it fun - turn the stereo up and grab that SuperMocio to use as a microphone.

Let me know how you get on - anyone who posts a picture of themselves singing/ dancing while they are cleaning will win some great Vileda goodies to help them keep going with the new term clean.

Big Brother housemates scrub up with Vileda!

On Saturday (20 June) the Big Brother housemates called in the cleaning experts, Vileda, to scrub up their living quarters with a host of Vileda products.

It appears that Sree was more interested in dancing with his SuperMocio than mopping with it and Karly had a jolly old time wiping the windows with her Vileda Naturals All Purpose cloth whilst dancing to the Pussycat Dolls!

Noreen got to grips with the communal bathroom with her Vileda Bath Magic (with telescopic handle to help get into those difficult to reach areas without bending or stretching).

One things for sure, the Big Brother housemates showed that cleaning can be fun when dancing along to music and having a laugh with your friends - you can even burn 250 calories per hour during a vigorous cleaning session - now that is most definitely clever cleaning!

HOUSEWORK? IT’S A WOMAN’S JOB SAY UK MEN

It's Father's Day this weekend and four out of ten British men still think that housework is a woman’s job!

A shocking 38% of men think domestic duties should naturally fall to women to complete, according to a new Vileda poll.

The poll proves that sexist stereotypes are still very much in play in the 21st century despite an apparent boom in so-called ‘new’ men – with an astonishing 1 in 5 men (18%) admitting that they still do absolutely no cleaning around the home.

And, surprisingly, it’s dads and married men who are worst. A whopping 78% of those men who admitted doing nothing around the home were married and/or fathers.

Vileda has also unearthed that a surprising 71% of Brit blokes claim to do very little cleaning in the home.
Delving further into the survey of 1,853 men, one in three men say they have never tackled the bathroom with a mop, bucket or cloth and 7% say they don’t even know where the cleaning products are kept in the house!

Lindsey Taylor from the Vileda Clever Clean Team says: “We were surprised to learn that the age old opinions about who is responsible for the running of the home still hold weight with many UK men.

“We are supposed to be in an age of the ‘new-man’ – but the men’s answers to our survey tells a very different story.”

There is, however, some light at the end of the tunnel for under-fire UK males – as UK women’s perception of the domestic dust-up is quite different from their own.

The study reveals that two thirds of women believe that the extra pressures exerted by the credit crunch is actually turning their men into a nation of domestic gods.

The poll found that three quarters of women claim their men now clean the house more than they did six months ago, while a further 55% even go as far as saying their male other-halves single-handedly purchase the week’s groceries.

Even the kids are benefiting from dad's recent revival as 36% more now share the school run with mum, according to the females polled.

And it seems the girls could be right because Vileda's latest figures from its customer service department reveals that the top selling SuperMocio mop is currently being enquired about twice as much by males than females.

One male celebrity goes further than simply bucking the trend when it comes to housework though. David Beckham admits to owning and wearing a pinny when he does housework around the home.

Mind you, it’s a tad more than Desperate Housewives Eva Longoria wears when she spruces up the living room with her feather duster – she admits to regularly doing the housework naked!

KEEP YOUR CLOTHS CLEAN!

Following a story in today's Daily Mirror on kitchen germs, Lindsey Taylor from the Vileda Clever Clean Team has given her expert tips for keeping your kitchen cloths germ free!

"We would recommend that you wash your cloths with hot water (using washing up gloves) and wring the cloth out properly after use and hang unfolded to dry (the quicker it dries the better). Our Vileda cloths can be washed in the washing machine and most can be washed up to 60 degrees although we recommend 40 degrees as it’s kinder to the environment. This will really help the spread of any kitchen germs."

Now that's clever cleaning!

Vileda Clever Cleaning - Bathroom Cleaning Tip

It's a dirty job but someone's got to do it. No one relishes cleaning the toilet bowel (but let us know if you do!) but as a breeding ground for germs, the whole of the bathroom shouldn't be neglected.

Clever Clean Tip!
Avoid harsh scouring pads in the bath and sink but use a multi-purpose cleaner to remove mildew build-up and bicarbonate of soda down plugholes to prevent blocking.

The Vileda Bath Magic mop is perfect for getting into awkward corners and is ideal for tiles. The telescopic handle stops you from needing to bend and stretch

Cleaning Heaven in Hell's Kitchen

In the past week, celebrities have entered the lair that is Marco Pierre White’s, ‘Hell’s Kitchen’.

The notoriously fiery chef only demands the best from his celebrity chefs and his kitchen, so we have supplied a selection of Vileda mops and cloths to help the celebrities clean up their own kitchen messiness and general spills. I am not sure if it will be enough to keep the wrath of Marco at bay though!

Research has shown that more than 50% of us eat in front of the TV regularly and with shows like Hell's Kitchen and The Apprentice on at the moment, there is sure to be more snacking in the living room than ever - one can only imagine the crumbs! Your much loved living space might need extra, smarter attention to keep it from becoming drab and dirty.

A clever cleaner will ensure there is a place for everything - magazine and letter racks, sideboards and drawers, CD and DVD cases and whatever else you need to contain your everyday items. My tip is to tidy up and put all your stuff in its rightful place before starting to clean!

Hot off the press! Cleaning isn't always black and white...

As well as providing lots of cleaning information, hints and tips, we want to help you distinguish between the many facts and myths that continue to surface. Today we are highlighting one of the most common myths....and it involves your daily newspaper.

A common belief is to use newspapers to clean windows - this is a myth! Newspaper leaves a newsprint residue on glass that will smear and streak. It also can leave black newsprint on the window frames. Keep the newspaper away from your glass! The best idea is to use Vileda's 2 in 1 Window Cleaner for streak free windows.

If you have any cleaning facts or myths then please do let us know at vileda@brazenpr.com. If we use your myth on our blog then we will send you some Vileda goodies!
